Guilt-Free Pleasures is a regular programme of films at Hyde Park Picture House that aims to reclaim the idea of a guilty pleasure. We’re passionate about screening the films we often watch at home on the big screen, helping to legitimise often stigmatised genres and show the worth of films often thought of us ‘fluff’.

A group of us working at the cinema would speak regularly about our favourite rom-coms, teen films and camp favourites and realised we don’t often see them shown in traditional cinema spaces. Our cinema is a very traditional and ornate one, and we recognise that not everyone might feel comfortable coming. We wanted to create screenings of familiar films in the venue that would appeal to a wider audience and show that the cinema and film is for everyone.

We want everyone to feel as comfortable as possible in the space, so we always aim to have an extra element to the screening. Whether this is a social space to chat about the film, crafting before we go in, a performance to watch or themed cocktails. We like to make our events easy to access with a free added fun element.
